Sweet Silver Lining

Okay, so I know that life is rough. I know that everyone goes through hard times. But what about when it is you going through those hard times? When everything that could possible go wrong in life goes wrong? Well all I can say is, that is our life right now and I am not dealing very well with it. Actually I am doing horrible at it. I have turned into this awful, mean, ornery, depressed person. I don't even know how Weston can handle living with me! Well I am through with that. Last week I went to the Kate Voegele concert. She is one of my favorite singers. It was a really low key concert, just in a club in Salt Lake. It was actually really causal because her tour bus broke down on the way to SLC so they didn't have the extravagant set up. But it was so much fun and she is the cutest, sweetest performer. Well, she played a few songs from her new c.d. that will be released in a couple weeks and one of the songs was called Sweet Silver Lining. As I listened to the words it gave me hope that things will get better. Part of the chorus said "I may be weak, but I'm not defeated." I think that during the last few months I have let life get to me and I was feeling defeated. But I have decided to change my outlook on life and when things get rough and everything seems to go wrong I just need to look for the silver lining in my life. That is my new philosophy on life and I am going to stick to it.

Graduation

Doesn't he look so good in his cap and gown! Makenna sure is cute!

This is at the Smithfield house where Weston is getting ready to walk out.

Weston is somewhere in that great sea of graduates

Yesterday and today was BYU's graduations and I just wanted to say that I am so proud of Weston for all that he has accomplished. He graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. For the last 3 years he has worked full time and attended BYU full time all while trying to handle Makenna and I. I know that I didn't make it easy for him at times but I am so proud of all that he has done. Even if he does over analyze every little thing! That's an engineer for you! But Thursdays commencement was really nice. We had the opportunity to listen to Elder Nelson and President Uchtdorf. Pres. Uchtdorf also received an Honorary Doctoral Degree from the school. Then today we watched as Weston walked with his fellow Engineering class and received his degree. It was so nice to see all his hard work pay off. Now all we need is to find a job! So if anyone knows of any Civil Engineering jobs out there let us know. They are far and few between right now. Congratulations and good job Wes! You are such a hard worker and an amazing father and husband. Makenna and I are so proud of you and we are glad that you finished. (Well for now maybe!) We love you!

I could never be a Burgler

Wednesday, we had a very interesting afternoon. We could say that it all started about 6 months ago. When we bought our house we had a locksmith come change the locks because all three outside doors had different doorknobs and they all used different keys. So we thought we would make things easier and safer by changing them. Well when the locksmith was looking at all the doors he saw the door to the playroom and said we needed to change the doorknob. It was actually a doorknob that you would put on the outside of a house and you would need a key to get in and we didn't have any keys that fit that lock. He said that one day some kids would go in there and lock themselves in and then we wouldn't be able to get them out. I told Weston that we needed to change it but we both just forgot about it. Well on Wednesday we were babysitting Makenna's cousin Shali and the two kids were playing around. Makenna had gone into the toy room and shut the door. I went over to open it so Shali could go in and play too but the door was locked. I couldn't get it opened. So I called Weston and told him what happened and I couldn't decide if I should cry or if I should laugh. Makenna was starting to get really upset that she couldn't get out and I was worried about getting her out. So Weston started to head home from BYU and he told me to try and break in with a credit card. You always hear stories about people breaking in that way or you see it done on TV. So I grabbed an old card and tried to get in but it was no use. Finally 45 minutes later Weston got home and broke the doorknob. We got Makenna out but it was so sad to hear her in there crying and so scared and we couldn't do anything about it. We will definitely be smarter when someone gives us some helpful tips. And all I know is that I could never break into a house with a credit card!

This is what it looked like when I was trying to break in with a credit card.

I still can't figure out how it is done!

Easter Craziness

Here is Makenna in her Easter dress

Isn't she adorable!!!

Her whole outfit

Waking up to see what the Easter bunny brought

Collecting eggs at the Easter egg hunt

Hanging out with cousin Brandon with their new toys

So I don't know if craziness is even a word but it should be because this year was really crazy. We celebrate Easter on Saturday so as to not take away from the real meaning of Easter on Sunday. So Saturday morning Makenna woke up to a basket full of candy and a new doll and new church shoes. (She didn't have any to wear to church.) Next we got ready for the day and guess what Makenna had for breakfast. Yup it was candy, or in her words treats. We then headed up to my parents house where we had an Easter egg hunt and lunch. She was completely spoiled with tons of candy, toys and the cutest new outfit. We ran home to fit in a nap and then to proceed to the Southwick Easter party. We had another Easter egg hunt and dinner. Makenna was so high on sugar that she kept running back and forth into the kitchen for more chips. The problem with that was there was so much food in there that she couldn't eat because it contained eggs. So unfortunately she did end up getting something she shouldn't have had and she started to break out around her mouth and was itching all over her stomach and back. It wasn't too bad so we just gave her some benedryl and that really helped out. I don't think that Easter is the best holiday for someone with an egg allergy. Oh well. At least we survived and we get to wait a whole year until we celebrate again.
